Fear or Freedom: Are Your Values Steering the Ship, or is Fear Holding the Wheel?

Hey there, Wonder Woman!

We all juggle a million things – work deadlines, family commitments, that ever-growing to-do list. But amidst the chaos, do you ever stop to ask yourself: what’s truly driving my decisions? Are you grabbing opportunities that align with your deepest values, or are you unconsciously letting fear call the shots?

Honey, fear can be a sneaky little devil. It masquerades as caution, whispers doubts in your ear, and keeps you playing it safe. Maybe it tells you:

  • “Don’t quit your job, you can’t afford to take a risk.”
  • “Don’t go back to school, you’re too old for that now.”
  • “Don’t speak up in that meeting, they’ll think you’re crazy.”

These voices might sound logical on the surface, but they ultimately hold you back from living a life that lights you up. So, how do you tell if fear or your values are in the driver’s seat?

Here’s a quick exercise to get you started:

  1. Grab a pen and paper.
  2. List out 3-5 core values that are most important to you. (Think: honesty, adventure, creativity, etc.)
  3. Now, consider a recent decision you made.
  4. Ask yourself: Did this decision feel aligned with my values? Did it move me closer to the life I truly desire? Or, was it driven by a need to avoid something unpleasant (failure, disapproval, etc.)?

Honesty is key here, girlfriend. If fear played a bigger role than your values, don’t beat yourself up! We’ve all been there. Now, let’s explore how to shift the power dynamic:

1. Get crystal clear on your values. Take some time for introspection. Reflect on moments when you felt truly fulfilled. What were you doing? Who were you with? What qualities were you expressing? Identifying your core values gives you a roadmap for decision making.

2. Challenge your fear stories. Fear often whispers worst-case scenarios. When a fear pops up, ask yourself: “Is this thought truly realistic?” What’s the most likely outcome? Chances are, your fear is exaggerating the risk and underestimating your strength.

3. Embrace small steps, big dreams. Don’t let the fear of the unknown paralyze you. Break down your goals into bite-sized, actionable steps. Taking consistent action, even if it’s small, builds momentum and keeps the fear at bay.

4. Seek out your tribe. Surround yourself with supportive women who believe in you and your dreams. Their encouragement and shared experiences can be a powerful antidote to fear.

5. Celebrate your victories (big and small). Acknowledge your progress, no matter how seemingly insignificant. Each step forward is a victory over fear and a testament to your courage.

Here’s the truth, beautiful soul: you are capable of incredible things. Don’t let fear dim your light. Remember, your values are your compass, guiding you towards a life of purpose and fulfillment. Take charge, embrace the unknown, and rewrite the story fear has been trying to tell you.

You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. Now go out there and show the world what you’re made of!

With love and support,
